Self Service Password Reset (SSPR) User Guide
What is Self Service Password Reset?
Self Service Password Reset (SSPR) is a feature which allows users to change their password in the cloud.
Password writeback is a complimentary feature that enables those password changes to be written back to an existing on-premises directory in real time. This simplifies password operations and helps ensure consistent application of password policies.
What if I’m unable to reset my password?
Please raise a ticket with the IT service desk. Once we have confirmed your identity we will be able be able to assist with resetting your password.
Enrolment Guide
Before following this SSPR guide you should already be enrolled in MFA. If not please follow the MFA guide first.
To enrol into SSPR you will need to add additional methods to your IPPF Security info. To do perform the following:
- If you see a sign in prompt that looks like the below. Enter your IPPF email address into the username box.

- If you see an organizational sign in prompt that looks like the below. Enter your IPPF email address into username box, and your password into the password box.

- You will likely be prompted for MFA to progress. Approve this using your preferred method.

- Once at your security info you will need to add an additional method. In this instance we are going to add an external email address though there are options for the Authenticator App, Alternative phone, Email or Office Phone.

- After choosing Email. Enter in the email address you would like to use and click on next. A code will be sent to that email, use this code to verify the additional method. Once verified the new method should be visible under Security info:


Changing your password via SSPR
If you need to change your password you can whilst signed in to Office 365. Go to https://account.activedirectory.windowsazure.com/ChangePassword.aspx enter in your old password followed by your preferred new password and click on submit.
Your password will need to meet the complexity requirements set for IPPF. These are as follows:
- Must be at least 8 characters long
- Contains at least one capital letter
- Contains at least one number
If the new password doesn’t meet these requirements then an error will appear.

What if you’ve forgotten your password?
If you have forgotten your password and need to reset it you can through SSPR. You will need two verification methods in order to complete the reset:
1. Go to https://portal.office.com and select Can’t access your account

- Enter in your IPPF email address and the characters in the picture or the word in the audio boxes:

- Choose your first verification step, in the below example Approve a notification is selected. This would send a push notification to the authenticator app on the mobile device which was enrolled into MFA.

- Choose your second verification step, in the below example Send a text to my mobile phone is selected. This would send a text with a verification code to the mobile device which was enrolled into MFA

- Lastly enter in your new password and confirm the new password, then click on Finish. After this is done you should be able to access your IPPF account with the new password.

Reporting Suspicious Activity
If you receive a notification or phone call from Microsoft that you have not initiated, then this could mean that someone else is trying to gain access to your account.
You have the option to deny the logon request and report it to the IT Help Desk for investigation. Doing so may temporarily block access to your account to ensure that it remains secure while we identify the source of the logon.
